The Managing Director (MD) of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) made an official visit as part of an ongoing initiative to engage with factories under the KTDA network. The visit aimed to assess the factory’s operations, engage with management and farmers, and discuss key issues affecting tea production and marketing.
During the visit, the MD toured various sections of the factory including the withering, processing, drying, and packaging units. He inspected the state of machinery, production processes, and quality control systems. The visit also involved a review of factory performance metrics, energy efficiency measures, and ongoing infrastructure improvements.
A key highlight of the visit was an interactive meeting with the factory’s board of directors, management team, and farmer representatives. The MD addressed challenges faced by the factory, including fluctuating tea prices, rising production costs, and the need for value addition. He also shared insights into KTDA’s strategic plans aimed at improving farmer earnings, expanding market access, and enhancing sustainability across the tea value chain.
The visit underscored KTDA’s commitment to supporting affiliated factories through innovation, financial management, and operational excellence. It also reinforced the importance of transparency, farmer empowerment, and continuous improvement in delivering value to smallholder tea farmers.
